Dora’s Big Birthday Bash

Klaire started to like Dora. I do not know when this happened, I just realized she would scream like a fan girl when Dora and Boots are on TV or when she sees them in the toy store. So I learned to look out for anything Dora :) Yesterday, we visited the Nickelodeon Asia website. Let me share the upcoming event:

The birthday episode/TV movie special will premiere on 23 August at 12noon. There’s also a promotion to create/design a birthday card for Dora and win exciting loots:

For entries in the Philippines, send to AYCI/Nickelodeon Office 3/F Silver City Mall, Frontera Drive, Julia Vargas St cor E. Rodrigues Jr., Pasig City. The site did not say though when the deadline of entries would be (or I totally missed that piece of information LOL). I’ll update this blog once I know for sure :)

(Edit: The deadline is 31 August according to a reader’s comment. Thanks Mys for the information!)

Pinoy Pride at the International Arts Festival

Edwin Bergaño, a 15-year old student of Baguio National High School won the Special Prize to International Artist at the 11th International High School Arts Festival held in Ueno Seiyoken in Tokyo, Japan. This was announced by the Department of Foreign Affairs via a report of the Philippine Embassy in Japan.

Edwin’s painting called “The Other Side of Myself” earned him a medal and certificate sponsored by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture. Bergaño attended the festival with 8 other Filipino students but it was Edwin who bested over all other participants from other countries like Japan, Australia, UK, Singapore and Ireland.

Truly, the Filipinos’ talent is world class!

Portrait of Case Settlement Comes Near

Schiele_Wally

When I saw this piece of news about an Egon Schiele painting called Portrait of Wally, I remembered the fictional book a read about two months ago, Twenties Girl. Apparently, it could happen in real life where the heirs of the legal owner discovers the authentic painting in a museum. The legal owner of the Schiele 1911 painting was the art dealer named Lea Bondi Jaray who fled Vienna in 1939. Her art gallery was seized by the Nazis. The subject of the Portrait of Wally was Schiele’s mistress called Walerie Neuzil and is a pair of Schiele’s Self Portrait. In 1954, art collector Rudolf Leopold obtained Wally but it was to be determined whether he knew that the piece of art was stolen. The “ownership” was later transferred to the Austria state-funded Leopold Foundation in 1994.

This painting has been in the US since 1997 and was seized by the New York State Prosecutors in 1998. Earlier in 1997, some members of the Bondi family saw the painting in the Museum of Modern Art. It was there on a loan for an exhibit. The museum refused to disclose the details of the loan so the family decided to ask the court to hold it until ownership is determined.

Now, eleven years after, the case could be settled but no confirmation is released. Bondi family could possibly receive $20 million from the Leopold Foundation but this is yet to be announced by the court.
